Life goes on – even during the holidays

I laid down on my bed tonight with a familiar weight that felt particularly heavy.

I know it’s supposed to be the most wonderful time of the year and, believe me, I’m still mesmerized by the lights twinkling on houses during the quietest times of the day and I still get teary-eyed watching Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye bring Christmas to Pinetree, Vermont, but it all feels different this year.

2018 has been the toughest year of my life. I’ve endured personal and professional heartache and I’ve watched loved ones suffer through declining health. I’ve been afraid to look at my bank account balance on more than one occasion. I never felt like I was ever able to catch my breath.

But, there was always one consistency. Every day I would come home to my bed, my familiar L&W mattress, lay down, and feel the weight of life lifted – if only for a few hours. There’s something to be said for that. That one hand-made piece of furniture could carry the burden of the world and save my shoulders and my back.

It’s amazing how grateful I am for that mattress. It’s lasted for a decade, with perfect firmness, and kept my body going when my family and my job wore me out.

How fortunate we are to live in our homes, see our families, and have warm beds. I’m even more blessed to know that amidst all of the change in my life, the same, durable, comfortable mattress will be there for me every night to recharge me.

Tackling a new day can be hard, but I’m hopeful. I’m hopeful for the promise of 2019. As I lay down at night I’m grateful that tomorrow is a new day and I’m certain that I’ll sleep well thanks to L&W.
